Did God leave a message in the placement of the obelisk to warn us of the perils to come if we continue in idol worship?

READ TIME: 3 Minutes

At the end of Part I, I asked a question. “If God warned Israel of its idol worship, is it possible that God also left the U.S. a message concerning this particular idol?”

Examine the evidence below and draw your own conclusion.

The Obelisk Idol and the Walls of the United States

This Egyptian Obelisk was the first idol to foreign gods of this magnitude to be placed on United States’ soil since the nation’s birth. However, Cleopatra’s Needle is only one of three true obelisks in the city.

The first is a memorial to a New York State Attorney General, Thomas Addis Emmet, located at St. Paul’s Chapel. This obelisk is 30 feet tall and was built in the early 1830s. The second is the Worth Monument, the burial site of General William Jenkins Worth. General Worth fought in the Mexican-American War and was a Commandant at West Point. This obelisk of 51 feet tall and was built in 1857.

Strangely, although built in different times and for different purposes, all three obelisks line up in a perfectly straight line. See the picture below taken from Googe Earth. As you can see, when drawing a straight line from Cleopatra’s Needle to the Emmet Obelisk, the line intersects the Worth monument precisely through its center.

While men may have intentionally selected the spot for Cleopatra’s Needle to form this alignment, man could not have created the circumstances for this site to be available. The first two obelisks were erected far before anyone had conceived of bringing an Egyptian obelisk to New York City. And it was God who created the high hill of granite on the site where an art museum was to be built in the same year as the obelisk’s arrival (1880). Only God could have arranged this.

But if God arranged for this alignment to occur, what is He telling us?

The Message in the Three Obelisks

When I contemplated an obelisk in the middle of two other objects, it reminded me of a scale. Scales represent justice. In law, there is a balance between competing interests. In this case, picture God’s law in the left bowl of the scale and our actions in the right bowl. The tipping of the scale could lead to blessings or chastisement.

So let’s start with the first obelisk at St. Paul’s Chapel. St. Paul’s Chapel is the chapel where our government consecrated the new nation to God, led by George Washington. In his prayer, Washington not only sought God’s blessing but asked for His “Holy protection” over the United States. It’s also significant that the obelisk at this site is a memorial to a man of law, an Attorney General. These factors indicate that the obelisk at St. Paul’s chapel represents God’s law and the protection God affords for remaining in His law.

In the right-hand bowl of the scale is a great sin in the form of an inscribed idol, worshipping Egyptian gods.

The fulcrum on the scale is an obelisk memorializing a military man who fought in the Mexican-American War. This war was a border war that started when the Mexican Army fired on U.S. troops at the disputed border. My conclusion is that this obelisk represents the country’s defense of its borders, or walls.

The Full Meaning of the Scale

So at one end of the scale, we have God’s law that affords protection. At the other end, we have sin that would rip such protection away. And in the balance is the country’s borders/walls. The message is this – if the country remains in God’s laws, His protection will remain on the country, but if it worships idols, His protection will be lifted and the and enemies will breach the country’s walls.

The scale also represents that God does not dole out these chastisements unjustly. The sin in the scale’s bowl must reach a threshold to tip the scale to the point of allowing enemies to enter. The Bible reveals this concept when God delayed his gift of the promised land to Abraham by 400 years. He would not allow Abraham’s descendants to take the land from its inhabitants until their iniquities were complete. (Genesis 15:16)

So is America’s sin sufficient to tip the scale?

The Breach of the United States’ Defenses

Of course, we know the nation’s walls were breached, and it happened next to the Emmet Obelisk site on 9/11.

The images below show the paths of the two planes as they flew into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center in relation to the obelisk at St. Paul’s Chapel.

This connection between St. Paul’s Chapel, the attack on 9/11, and the nation’s walls of protection are described in great detail in Jonathan Cahn’s books, The Harbinger and The Harbinger II: The Return.

Though this event shook the U.S., the country has continued to fill the right bowl of the scale with sin. Among many attacks on God’s laws, the worship of idols continues to grow on a personal and national level.

The nation continues to erect prominent idols in its centers of government and finance (DC and New York), particularly in the last ten years. These idols include a giant depiction of the Hindu goddess Kali, goddess of destruction and death, which was possibly the largest idol ever displayed in the U.S., a replica of the arch of a temple of Baal, a pagan Medusa statue, and a statue of Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of wisdom and learning, with a young President Obama sculpture at her feet.

With these increases in idol worship, should we expect further breaches of our walls?

Enemy Breaches to Come

Just weeks ago, when a U.S. representative proclaimed a false god over the Congress, the Capitol building’s walls were breached only three days later. (see my post, Did the Breach of the Capitol Building Contain a Message from God?) This rapid response may reflect that our bowl of sin is nearly complete and judgment is at hand.

The United States has many walls of protection. There are naval bases protecting our coasts, firewalls protecting our data and infrastructure, physical walls protecting our borders, and even satellites protecting our skies. Could we see breaches in these walls by America’s enemies in the days to come?

If we continue is the ways that ancient Israel did, the answer may be a resounding “yes.”

Post Script

I excluded several intriguing items from this post because they are more speculative than I cared to include in the main message. However, I will share them, and you can make your own judgments as to their significance.

The Missionary’s Warning

In the book The New York Obelisk, the author wrote of an account by Henry Gorringe, the man who physically brought the obelisk from Egypt. He recounted that when his workers were removing the obelisk, an American missionary set up a “borrowed pulpit” and denounced the obelisk’s removal as the “Devil’s work”. Perhaps his warning portended the danger of bringing this massive idol to the United States.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Image

It is possible that the image Nebuchadnezzar commissioned and forced the people to worship was an obelisk. The monument’s proportions of 10:1 height to base width are the standard proportions of an obelisk. (The same proportions as the Washington Monument.)

The descriptions of Cleopatra’s Needle’s dedication in New York reminded me of the great gathering at the dedication of Nebuchadnezzar’s idol. Daniel 3:3-5 – “Then the satraps, the prefects and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates and all the rulers of the provinces were assembled for the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; …at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe and all kinds of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.

I wonder if Cleopatra’s Needle’s dedication was the biggest dedication of an obelisk since Nebuchadnezzar’s image.

The First Aliyah

The obelisk was erected in 1881, the same year that the first Aliyah (return of Jews to the promised land) in the modern age began. I find it interesting that God began bringing the Jews back to the land of Israel in the same year that America was bringing Egypt (representing bondage) to its shores.

The Extended Line

Out of curiosity, I extended the line that connected the three New York obelisks and found another possible connection to the United States’ protective walls. Subject to some minor variations, the line crosses the mouths of the bays that lead to New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. At the Chesapeake Bay, the line crosses the naval bases at Norfolk, which is the home base of the U.S. Atlantic fleet. This area also has a history with the nation’s walls back to the Revolutionary War, where American and French forces converged in the British, forcing the surrender at Yorktown.

The Dream that Led to the Obelisk

I had never heard of Cleopatra’s Needle until one early morning, while in prayer. After the Capital breach, I inquired with the Holy Spirit about breaches in the nation’s walls. I started to doze off and had a dream of two hands opening a small old box. The box had two items in it and I heard a voice that said, “this is deep – way back in February 1881.” I describe how this dream led me to Cleopatra’s Needle in the post, The Dream of the Small Box & the Mystery it Uncovered)
